JOB TITLE: Assistant Finance Manager

LOCATION: Edinburgh

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office site


About this opportunity:

You'll join us in Group Finance Support (GFS), a team of c600 colleagues within the Finance Division, providing centralised support and expertise to the rest of Finance and the Business. This role is a 12 month secondment supporting the CB Financial Control team in Group Finance Support responsible for the financial control activity, reconciliation and basis of substantiation of data on a monthly basis.


What you'll be doing:

You'll join the Financial Control team which is responsible for Ledger Control & Reporting across the Leasing and Ireland business areas within Commercial Banking, as well as International Mortgages System within Retail Banking. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking candidate to join a team looking after a number of source system and other reconciliation and financial control processes.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the operations of the team including, ensuring regular deadlines are met, managing reconciliation issues and working with the wider Financial Control team to ensure that process work efficiently and in a controlled manner;
  • Contributing to the month end process, including the monthly balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation process, including Integrity certification and the assurance of the ledger at month end;
  • Taking ownership of control issues or balance sheet breaks, ensuring that these are owned and remediating action plans are in place;
  • Collaborating closely with a large number of internal teams including stakeholders in other GFS teams. In addition there will be extensive liaison with Divisional Business and Operations teams, Finance Platform colleagues and external auditors;
  • Supervising, supporting and coaching junior colleagues in their operational tasks and wider development
  • Working with Finance Platform, and other Change teams to ensure that Financial Control matters are considered in Transformation, including managing the ongoing change impact on source system reconciliations;
  • Developing personal capabilities using existing formal and informal training opportunities;
  • Proactively identifying improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures, including the running of debrief meetings and driving continuous improvement initiatives;

What you'll need:

  • Working towards an accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or have alternatively gained a similar level of expertise acquired through experience in a finance function
  • Process and Controls expertise with a passion for Financial control and questioning mindset;
  • Strong background of delivery and driving continuous improvement against a constantly evolving landscape.
  • Bring a problem-solving approach with excellent analytical and investigative skills.
  • Works collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, utilising well-developed relationship skills.
  • Good communicator, excellent organisational ability and able to operate independently or as part of a team.
