Investment Accountant
Glasgow

As a Barclays Investment Accountant, you will become part of a highly effective in-house pensions executive team, dedicated to following best practice in all areas for the benefit of pension plan members and Barclays. In the UK, Barclays has a legacy trust based Defined Benefit (DB) pension scheme, Barclays Bank UK Retirement Fund (UKRF), with over 200,000 members and in excess of £25bn of assets including £2bn in Defined Contribution (DC) assets. The UKRF is overseen by an independent non-executive Trustee Board.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, established in 1690, with a legacy of success, quality, and innovation. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.

What will you be doing?
•    Leading and overseeing all investment related finance matters and other duties
•    Being responsible for the oversight of financial regulatory reporting, such as Office of National Statistics, investment tax submissions, etc
•    Acting as the relationship lead for custodians – working with these key suppliers in the delivery of services to the UKRF in line with contract across a matrix of stakeholders
•    Providing covenant monitoring – leading on relationships with the suppliers and working with the Bank on the delivery of these services to the UKRF
•    Leading on investment tax related matters, whether withholding tax, engagement with custodians or VAT recovery
•    Managing budgets and cost reporting process, from initial budget setting to ongoing monitoring and reporting

What we’re looking for:
•    Relevant professional qualifications e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA (or equivalent)
•    Significant technical understanding of accounting for complex investments and investment related financial controls for pension schemes and investment vehicles
•    Investment audit or financial control experience of complex investments
•    Experience of budgeting, cost management and accounting systems design and development

Skills that will help you in the role:

•    Excellent judgement, decisive, speed with accuracy and commits to high standard
•    Analytical skills to deal with a wide variety of financial and pension related requirements
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills to make the finance issues clearly understood to a wide range of stakeholders

Where will you be working?

Our new state-of-the-art Campus, right in the heart of Glasgow is a hub of creative collaboration. A place where everyone can bring their true selves to work and reach their full potential. Home to 5,000 of our colleagues, our Tradeston campus will support the community in more ways than one - by creating thousands of new career opportunities and celebrating local artists.
