Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Lawyer
Glasgow

As a Barclays ESG Lawyer, you will provide advisory support to the Sustainability and ESG team. You will be advising on the development and implementation of the bank’s strategic Sustainability agenda, as well as day-to-day support to Barclays business’ across the group on transactional and BAU queries.  This role will include supporting interactions between the S&ESG team and external stakeholders including shareholders, regulators, NGOs and industry peers.

What will you be doing?
•    Supporting all aspects of Barclays’ Sustainability agenda, including but not limited to policy de-velopment and Sustainable Finance product development
•    Providing technical expertise on key pieces of emerging UK and European banking and financial regulatory changes, including CSRD, and supporting the legal work
•    Strategically inputting into Barclays’ house view on policy proposals and advocacy positions across a range of issues that have the potential to impact our Sustainability strategy
•    Supporting the team, and leading workstreams, on Annual Reporting and other Barclays public disclosures on ESG, Sustainability and Climate Change including ESG taxonomies
•    Working alongside other internal stakeholders to develop and provide bank-wide input into trade association and related initiatives relating to S&ESG
•    Working alongside Legal colleagues to ensure continuous Legal coverage for Sustainability on a global basis; and meeting regularly with Legal colleagues to identify regional issues, etc
•    Running matters independently, and providing timely escalation, reporting and MI relating to key challenges, milestones and opportunities arising from the ESG and climate programmes
•    Instructing and managing Barclays relationships with external counsel across multiple jurisdic-tions, reviewing advice and legal opinions and liaising with internal stakeholders

What we’re looking for:
•    Qualified UK, US, EU or Commonwealth Lawyer (Solicitor, Attorney or equivalent)
•    Experienced Advisory Lawyer with significant legal experience gained in-house or in a challenging private practice environment
•    Subject matter expertise or significant interest and awareness in relation to the ESG agenda
•    Ability to advise on new and evolving technical areas of law without established precedent

•    Ability to provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders and effectively balance legal and commercial risks
•    Awareness of regulatory issues and confidence in advising on key risk issues and mitigants, and helping the businesses to make decisions
•    Technical legal skills and academic background
