FreeAgent 🚀

FreeAgent is one of the UK’s most popular small business finance apps with over 100,000 customers. We help small businesses sort out the mess and the stress of managing their business finances.

Make a difference 💫

We’re on a mission to make small businesses happier and more successful by putting them in control of their finances.

The Communication Design team within Marketing is responsible for the design and art direction of the FreeAgent brand, collaborating with the marketing, content and product design team the team creates and delivers a range of audience-specific design experiences for the FreeAgent brand.

We’ve done a lot already, and we have no plans of slowing down. This is an opportunity to help us build the future of our brand and join a talented team of creatives at a company with an enviable culture.

What you’ll do

Assist in the creation of front-facing marketing collateral including, but not limited to: integrated marketing campaigns, advertising art direction, graphic design, film, experiential, environment, and digital communications delivered across landing pages, email, web collateral, and social media channels
Help us build, maintain, and develop our visual communication according to brand guidelines, crafting amazing design experiences that excite our users
Work with creative writers on integrated brand and tactical campaigns delivered through multiple channels
Be interested in words, what they can do, and how they can help your work be more effective and show this in your ideas and work
Work directly with our Senior Creative Lead and your fellow comms designers to create, craft and implement viable and desirable creative ideas across a range of project work streams
Bring your curiosity and inventiveness with you every day: you obsess over a clever idea, effortlessly executed. The work you share with us will reflect this and be shown in how it’s presented.
Create effective and inspiring ideas, using creative techniques and tools to present your ideas and inspire others
Enjoy taking ownership and responsibility for your work, but good at communication and collaborating closely with others as needed
Help support, create and evolve our visual identity systems and guidelines, collaborating with and supported by the whole of the design team
Be comfortable working in the core Adobe CC programmes, and handy at moving image too
Be able to switch easily between digital and sometimes print
Enjoy raising the bar with your strategic and focused design solutions – strong on ideas, and able to explain them coherently, with the skills to then develop them carefully, consistently and methodically
Enjoy working with colleagues across the Comms Marketing, UX and Product design teams at FreeAgent

Creating the best place to work 👩🏽‍💻

We want people to be productive, to have career opportunities, to be focused on meaningful work and to have an excellent work/life balance. We value a diverse team, and we believe the variety of experiences and backgrounds in our team make us stronger. We believe in a learning culture and encourage self-development. We like to think we work smarter, not harder, and try to have fun doing it!

Over the last year we have adapted well to working remotely as we have been able to rely on our long established remote friendly practices. Looking to the future, we are excited to understand our ‘new normal’ and are committed to exploring the opportunities that a hybrid working environment could bring for our wider team.

Our amazing office in central Edinburgh will remain as our hub and our working environment is light and bright, with inspiring spaces and quiet places. Find out more about life at HQ here!

While we’re remote we’re finding alternative ways to stay connected and enjoy activities together, from our virtual art club to exercise challenges and cake decorating competitions. See how we’ve been getting on!

Applying for the role

Our application process is simple; just upload your CV and cover letter along with your current portfolio.

We’ll also ask you to answer a few questions about why you are interested in this opportunity. Please note we won’t progress any applications that don’t include a portfolio – this is a hands-on design role so we need to see your design chops from the off!

In your application we want to get a sense for the person we could be working with. So through your work we’d especially like to see case studies that showcase your personality, your thinking and your creativity. Be selective and share the case studies that you think do that best.

Our selection process involves phone and video interviews, as well as a practical exercise and presentation with a chance to meet some of the team. We work hard to make the process as straightforward, transparent and enjoyable as possible.

We really care about building an inclusive and diverse team, and we welcome applications from people with varied backgrounds and perspectives. We want to make sure that the people who build FreeAgent are reflecting our diverse customer base and bringing with them a range of ideas and experiences. What unites us is an openness to suggestions, and a drive to solve problems in the best way possible.
