Full Job Description

Executive Director of Change and Data

Salary - Up to £130,000 plus Civil Service pension

Location - Glasgow, Scotland

The Student Loans Company (SLC) is a non-profit making government-owned organisation supporting the ambitions of millions of students. By providing more than £20 billion of loans each year to those in further and higher education, we are enabling people to invest in their futures.

The customer experience is at the heart of everything we do, and the next stage of our transformation is to raise the bar even higher for customers, our colleagues and stakeholders. Our strategy is underpinned by data, and the role of Executive Director for Data and Change is fundamental to driving forward improvements for customers in how we deliver and how we use data.

You will have responsibility for our Data Centre of Excellence, which ensures that data is usable for insights and analytics that support our goals and ambitions. The Change Function provides governance, portfolio and project management delivery services to execute our change portfolio and continuous improvement across the organisation, whilst ensuring value for money.

The role is responsible for driving and delivering strategy and performance through effective leadership, inspiring senior managers and working collaboratively with stakeholders around the UK.

Our focus this year will be enabling and promoting self-service for customers and the Executive Director will have a key function in delivering our customer strategy. Data shows that most of our customers prefer to self-serve, so we are working on new systems to allow people to use our services without having to contact us, freeing up resources to support our customers who need us most.

This role will also be pivotal to delivering one of our biggest and most impactful reforms to date: the introduction of the Lifelong Learning Entitlement will give people up to the age of 60 access to a more flexible loan system to fund post-18 study and training.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and have exceptional leadership skills to inspire and motivate the directorate’s team of senior managers. In this role, you will ensure that the value of data is maximised to its full potential across the organisation as part of your strategic thinking to identify opportunities for growth and diversification, whilst providing contingency plans and risk mitigation

Ideally, you will understand the data and analytics landscape, setting strategy and leading change while having a knowledge of finance or the education sector. You should have strong examples of your experience in delivering major technology-dependent transformation and operational change in an organisation of similar scale.

You will also be a driver to ensure we meet one of our strategic goals to make the SLC a great place to work by continuing to develop the organisation as an Employer of Choice.

If this sounds like you and you would like to be part of a dynamic team working to unlock opportunity for future generations, then we would love to hear from you. Applications in the form of a tailored CV and covering letter, highlighting your skills and experience pertinent to the role, should arrive no later than midnight Wednesday 24 April.
