Internship- Legal Summer Intern

This opportunity is powered by the #BlackInterns Program which is a Black Professionals United Kingdom (BPU) initiative.

We are creating internship opportunities for members of the Black community across UK.

About Burness Paull LLP

Proudly based in Scotland, we work with leading organisations across the UK and internationally.

Clients tell us they appreciate the breadth of our legal expertise, the depth of our talent and, crucially, the down-to-earth personality of our people.

It is our single most important point of difference – a human & high-performing culture that permeates all that we do.

As a truly independent law firm operating in a fast moving and challenging global landscape, we have complete license to shape our culture and determine our values in a way that sustainably supports the needs of our people, our clients, our wider community and the environment.

Purpose of role

The placement will be six weeks long commencing on Monday 10 June 2024.

The internship will be based in one of our three offices. Please note, you can only apply to one office. The office you apply to should be the office you wish to complete your traineeship in as you could be offered a traineeship if you perform well during your vacation scheme.

During your vacation scheme you’ll work within two key practice areas, across either Corporate, Dispute Resolution or Property & Infrastructure. You’ll also be involved in training sessions with our Knowledge and Development Lawyers, which will give you an insight into all of our practice areas.

You’ll enjoy a variety of experiences, building your knowledge of the law, the business world and life at the firm. And you’ll be hands-on from day one, making it a great platform from which to develop your career.

You will be assigned a mentor within your department for day to day advice, and have the continuing support of the Graduate Recruitment team.

Traineeship Opportunity: This program offers a pathway to securing a traineeship upon completion. Eligible candidates should be in their third year or higher of a Scots Law LLB and on track to achieve a 2.1 degree

We welcome applications for our summer vacation scheme from anyone who is on track to receive a 2.1 or higher in Scots Law or who is studying the Accelerated LLB or Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at any University.

Life as a student in our law summer vacation scheme

You will be learning right from the start.

All practice areas have their own training programmes. You will be assigned a mentor within your department for day to day advice and have the continuing support of the Graduate Recruitment team.

At the end of the vacation scheme, you will receive detailed feedback on your performance to help support your development.

The summer vacation scheme provides you the opportunity to secure a traineeship offer after you finish. The firm would then cover the cost of your diploma directly to your University of choice.
