The Role
VANL are looking for an Evaluation Officer to join their team, in which you would be reporting to a line manager and providing support for VANL, Community Solutions and wider CVS work.

Working location will be flexible – with a mix of remote working from home (with ICT equipment and support provided) and in their office in North Lanarkshire (currently Airdrie).

The purpose of this role is to provide evaluation support to the following:

  • Community Solutions Programme and funded projects (3-4 days a week)
  • Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire and wider community and voluntary sector (CVS) (1-2 days week)

Key Responsibilities

Community Solutions

  • Provide evaluation guidance to funded projects in line with Community Solutions requirements and approach.
  • Record and analyse funded project six and twelve monitoring and evaluation returns.
  • Support reflective discussions to support collective learning.
  • Prepare six- and twelve-month Impact and Learning reports for the Programme overall and specific initiatives.

VANL

  • Support VANL activity and outcome reporting, including capture and analysis of data and preparation of six- and twelve-monthly Impact and Learning Reports.

Wider CVS

  • Support development of NL CVS Impact and Sustainability online guide.
  • Use above to provide evaluation guidance to both Community Solutions and wider CVS organisations.

Professional and Corporate

  • Fulfil the role to the highest possible standard, acting professionally at all times in line with VANL’s corporate values.
  • Uphold VANL’s reputation at all times.

As with any dynamic organisation, it is likely that work reacting to changing circumstances will arise during the internship, therefore appropriate duties relevant to as agreed with the CEO.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree. You’ll have a creative flair with strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to, and understanding of, the mission and values of the community and voluntary sector.

Essential experience:

  • Relevant degree
  • Specialist training/qualification in social science applied research methods
  • At least two years’ experience of applied social research.

Essential values and knowledge:

  • A sound understanding of social science applied research methods, including evaluation research
  • A sound understanding of quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Demonstrable commitment to and understanding of the mission and values of VANL or a willingness to develop these
  • A genuine interest in and knowledge of the community and voluntary sector and/or a commitment to develop this.
  • Demonstrable commitment to making a positive contribution to residents and communities in North Lanarkshire.
  • A positive and “can do” attitude with a willingness to reflect, learn and improve.

Essential skills:

  • Excellent data analysis, presentation and reporting skills, including infographic presentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Able to plan and manage work independently and well to deliver good-quality outputs to schedule.
  • Able to problem-solve and approach challenges constructively and also know when to ask for support and guidance.
  • Able to work well with internal and external colleagues.
  • Able to use ICT effectively to fulfil working responsibilities.
